26-year-old Pier Road mural to be replaced

Jersey Heritage is commissioning a new mural, and the search for the artist has begun.

The 26-year-old landmark mural in St Helier will be given a new lease of life.

The successful artist will be asked to draw inspiration for their mural design from the flagship ‘La Tèrr’rie d’Jèrri – d's histouaithes dé not' Île’ (Being Jersey - stories of our Island) exhibition at Jersey Museum.

They will also work with the surrounding community and primary schoolchildren visiting the exhibition.

The current mural was painted in 1999 by Jersey artist Jason Butler, who more recently painted a portrait to commemorate the King and Queen's 2024 visit to Jersey.

The pier road mural focuses on the military life of Fort Regent, the hotels and homes along Pier Road and the trade and commerce around the harbour.

The project is expected to take several months, and planning approval is subject to the design itself.

It is hoped this can be done during the summer months.

Interested artists should email nicola.lusic@jerseyheritage.org with examples of their work.
