With the island entering a fourth heatwave of this summer, 1 in 8 of all heatwaves in Jersey since records began 132 years ago have occurred this year.
The latest spell of very hot weather begins today (11 August), with three consecutive days above 30°C forecast.
Temperatures are due to peak tomorrow (Wednesday) at 33°C.
The island has experienced a heatwave in each of May, June and July, and Rob Plumber from Jersey Met says this may not be the last of the season:
"It's been a very hot year.
"Four of the 32 Jersey heatwaves (ever recorded) have been in 2026.
"By the end of this week, the number of days this year over 30 degrees will be 19. We've had 154 ever. So, to put that into context, by the end of this week, 12% of our 30-plus degree days will have been this year.
"This might be the last heatwave of the year, or it's not impossible that we get one in September. There was one in September 2023.
"The sea is also exceptionally warm at the moment, so it's likely to hold its heat and carry it further into the year."
We're also on course to have to a record number of tropical nights, where the temperature does not fall below 21°C.
July was the hottest month ever recorded in Jersey, with an average temperature of 21.3 °C and five consecutive days above 30°C. degrees.
