Anthony Webster (67) has been jailed after defrauding a long-term family friend out of £100,000.
Jersey's Royal Court has sentenced the antiques dealer to 18 months in prison, after he pleaded guilty to his crimes earlier in the year.
Webster, originally from Coventry, stole his victim's favourite item of jewellery.
She discovered it was missing after a family holiday he had been invited on.
Webster then claimed to have found a replacement for the piece which he sold to her for £100,000.
His victim took the item to an expert who confirmed the 'replacement' was in fact the original.
Civilian Investigator Faith Shalamon, the officer in the case, says this is a stark reminder of how deeply personal and damaging fraud can be, especially when it involves someone the victim trusted implicitly.
"The emotional toll on the victim has been significant.
"We hope this sentence brings some measure of justice and closure to the victim."
