Battle of Flowers parades free for 2025

This year's Battle of Flowers parades will be through St Helier's town centre and will be free to spectators.

A new team is putting on a stripped back carnival with smaller floats.

Jersey Battle of Flowers (Parades) Ltd, a breakaway group of exhibitors, has taken over organisation of the event from the old Battle of Flowers Association after big losses last year.

It was feared Battle would be cancelled completely this year.

A fresh 'Strategy Group' has stepped in to make sure there is a 2025 event, and says it is focused on  'steering the festival forward'

This August, two smaller parades will take to the streets of St Helier, as the team is unable to bring its larger 45ft floats into town.

Battlers from across Jersey's parishes have been getting together and working on 20 floats, up to 30 ft in length, with fresh and paper flowers.

Live music, dance troupes and entertainers are joining the parades again for 2025, with shops across town also getting into the Battle spirit and will be decorating their windows, working with the exhibitors.

The Day Parade will commence on 8 August, in the afternoon, and the Moonlight Parade on 9 August, in the evening - start times at TBC.

Both parades will be free to spectators.

In March, Economic Development Minister Kirsten Morel said a £220,000 grant would be available to ensure there would a 'display of sorts' this year.

He later told the States,  A grant of £150,000 has been provisionally offered to the new organisers, with an extra £70k held in reserve 'to support this, or other, events such as the Christmas Parade'.

The new organisers say they are in talks to return Battle to Victoria Avenue in 2026, and bring back the larger floats.

A spokesperson says they are a new team, brimming with enthusiasm for the future of the Battle of Flowers.

"This August is about celebrating our incredible community and the enduring spirit of this unique festival and keeping it alive.

"We're focused firmly on the road ahead – revitalising the event, ensuring its sustainability, and creating even more magical moments for Jersey and our visitors.

"We invite everyone to join us for these two special one-off free parades as we embark on this exciting new journey together!"
