One of Jersey Zoo's much-loved residents has passed away today (21 September).
Anette the Sumatran orangutan, known affectionately as Nettie, was a part of the Jersey Zoo family for 15 years.
As an older Sumatran orangutan, she was dealing with several age-related health concerns and zoo staff, after noticing a significant decline in her general wellbeing in recent weeks, made the difficult decision to euthanise her
The orangutan house will stay closed for the next couple of days to give time for the orangutans to adjust.
The zoo said:
"Nettie was very popular with visitors and staff. She could often be seen keeping a close eye on public viewing areas or any work taking place nearby, taking her supervisory duties very seriously!
"The beautiful Nettie will be greatly missed by our staff, visitors and volunteers."
