There was a 20ft high jet of water on Kensington Place this morning (23 April) due to a burst water main.
Jersey Water was called to deal with the burst mains pipe.
It had sent water soaring 20 feet into the sky before falling back into the road and pooling alongside the pavements.
The road wad closed between the Kensington Street and Cheapside junctions, and police were asking people to avoid the area.
Jersey Water said people in the area might experience low water pressure while it works to make repairs.
Giving an update on efforts to fix the leak, Jersey Water described it as a 'big burst' that is proving to be a 'tricky one' to put right.
"Big bursts like this are relatively rare but when they do blow there are a couple of things that can happen to people’s water supply:
- Water pressure might be lower than usual
- Water may be discoloured
If you live or work in the area and your water colour is different to normal, you will need to flush your taps; run a kitchen or bathroom tap on low pressure until the water colour returns to normal. Also avoid using your dishwasher or washing machines during this time.
