Hundreds of candles will be lit around the beach at St Brelade's tonight (23 May) to remember loved ones islanders have lost.

It's the fourth 'Candles on the Beach' event hosted by Jersey Hospice Care as a way to remember family and friends who are no longer with us.

Spaces and candles can no longer be reserved. Walk-ins are still welcomed, but candle numbers may be limited.

Emily Churchill, Spiritual Care Lead at Hospice and host of the service, said:

"There is something especially supportive about sharing our experiences of grief in the presence of others.

"When you come together for the sole purpose of remembering and the stranger next to you – who does not know the detail of your story – understands why being there matters.

"Candles on the Beach offers exactly this, in a beautiful place, and with our community lighting their candles because it matters."

Anya Nightingale-Bataille, Events and Fundraising Officer, said:

"This is such a great event to see the Jersey community come together and share an evening to remember those who are no longer with us as the sun goes down and we illuminate the beach with their light."
