Certain Bus Services Reduced By Staff Shortage

There will be fewer buses on certain routes next week because of staff shortages.

The number 1 and 15 buses will run every 20 minutes instead of 15 from 9am to 4:30pm, with the number 20 half-hourly instead of every 20 minutes.

The number 1 route goes to Gorey Pier, the 15 goes to Jersey Airport and route 20 is a town service that was introduced as part of the summer schedule.

LibertyBus is eight full-time drivers short because of retirement and people moving to other jobs. Four other drivers are on long-term sick.

The company says it's been able to cope until now because staff have worked overtime, but the additional summer services and scheduled holidays have led to what it calls the need to 'make some temporary changes to ensure a safe and reliable service.'

Director Kevin Hart has apologised to customers.

"If we have any other issues that occur each day then we will of course post them on our social media channels and ask our customers to keep track via Facebook and Twitter for updates.

We are doing everything in our power to recruit staff – including offering free training for people to obtain their PSV drivers licence.

We’d also like to thank all of the staff working overtime over the last few months whilst we work through these issues."

The reduced frequency on these routes will start from Monday 11 July.
