Chief Minister 'demanding' better from DFDS after winter schedule

Deputy Lyndon Farnham has responded to a letter from the Jersey Hospitality Association, which raises concerns over DFDS’s performance as the Island’s ferry operator.

Deputy Lyndon Farnham believes the decision to stop the fast ferry to Poole in early November falls short of what was promised to islanders by DFDS.

The Chief Minister has said that the government is 'treating the matter with urgency' after receiving a letter expressing the concerns of the hospitality industry and the wider public regarding DFDS’s performance as the island’s ferry operator.

He says:

We have escalated our concerns to DFDS at the highest level and are demanding immediate clarity and improved delivery.

Jersey's top politician has announced the government is working with Visit Jersey during these difficult conditions for hospitality and says the tourism industry is a vital part of Jersey's economy.

DFDS' winter schedule shows the fast ferry to Poole will stop from 3 November, and there will be 118 departures from Jersey to the UK, and 110 freight crossings using the Caesarea Trader.

There will be 88 sailings to St Malo on Fridays through to Mondays.

In a previous statement, Chris Parker, Jersey Route Director, says DFDS understands these decisions will impact islanders and disappoint some travellers.

"We are sorry about the inconvenience this will cause.

"We are focusing on delivering a long-term sustainable service for Jersey, including investment in future tonnage for the island."
