Chief Minister Heads To USA

Jersey's Chief Minister is making his first official visit to the USA since before the Covid pandemic.

Senator John Le Fondré will attend meetings in New York, New Jersey and Washington DC this week.

He'll take part in political, diplomatic and trade talks  - and meet the Mayor of Trenton, which twinned with St Helier in 2019.

The government has given details of his visit, taking  place 8-10 March.

"In New York, the Chief Minister will be meeting US Commercial Services officials and representatives from the British Consulate.

He will also be attending an event hosted by Jersey Finance, as well as undertaking calls with Jersey Finance members with a presence in New York."

From NYC. Senator Le Fondré will travel to New Jersey.  The state capital Trenton signed at twinning agreement with the Parish of St Helier in 2019.

Mayor Reed Gusciora came to the island for the official opening of Trenton Square at the Jersey International Finance Centre.

In Washington DC, the Chief Minister will 'engage with diplomatic and political communities' and take part in 'a business roundtable to discuss how Jersey can increase its import and export capacities to the United States'.

“Jersey and the United States share a significant historical and cultural relationship that spans centuries. I am delighted to be in the US this week to support the development of this relationship and to reconnect with some key stakeholders we have been unable to meet since the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

“An important objective of this visit is to further develop the close relations we enjoy with New Jersey. On Wednesday I will be meeting the Mayor of Trenton, Reed Gusciora, to align the Island more closely with Trenton, and with the wider New Jersey State.

“In addition, I am meeting representatives from Jersey Finance member firms with a presence in New York. Jersey Finance is doing excellent work in driving growth and increasing the visibility of Jersey in financial services, and it is vital we support their work in New York, particularly given the growth of the Funds market in Jersey.” - Senator John Le Fondré
