Deputy fined for driving at over double the speed limit

A Jersey politician has been fined for speeding and failing to display a valid insurance disc in his car.

Deputy Philip Ozouf was fined a total of £575 for the two offences in the Magistrate's Court this morning, (11 February).

The backbencher was stopped by a police officer on 2 November 2024 after being observed driving at 31mph on a road with a 15mph speed limit.

He also failed to display an in-date motor insurance disc in his vehicle.

The court heard the absence of a valid disc was an ‘oversight’ and that he did have cover for the vehicle.

The former Minister, who represents St Saviour, pleaded guilty to both offences.
