DFDS has brought in a replacement vessel on the Jersey-Portsmouth route, the Cote D'Albatre.
The 143 metre long conventional ferry the sister ship to the Seven Sisters which did port trials in St Helier last October.
She is setting sail from Portsmouth on Thursday morning, due to arrive in the island at 8pm before making the return journey at 10pm.
Ports of Jersey has confirmed she will be the biggest operational passenger ship to have operated in Jersey.
The new operator has apologised for having to cancel Wednesday night's service to the UK while it moved the contingency boats into position.
Route Director Chris Parker said:
"We apologise to customers affected by these changes and appreciate their understanding and patience at this time. Our focus remains on ensuring our passengers can travel with minimal disruption.”
The Stena Vinga has been swapped on to the St Malo route while the Tarifa Jet fast ferry awaits clearance to begin sailings.
It was due to make its maiden crossing to Jersey last Friday (28 March) but additional work was required following its inspection by the MCA.
Tarifa Jet is now expected to enter service next week.
It is peak time for sea travel, with the schools breaking up for the Easter holidays on Friday (4 April).
DFDS took over running Jersey's sea links from Condor Ferries, which had served the island for six decades. The Danish firm has a 20 year contract.
