Dog rescued after falling from Fort Regent ramparts

A cockapoo which fell up to 30 metres from the ramparts at Fort Regent has escaped without any broken bones.

Luna jumped onto a wall and fell down the sheer drop, prompting her owner to call 999, just before 6pm on Friday 13 June.

Firefighters descended to look for the pup, who couldn't be seen from the walls above. She was found to be "shaken but conscious" and winched back to safety.

The dog was checked by animal welfare experts from the JSPCA and the States Vet before being taken to the Village Vets for X-rays, where she remains under observation.

Watch Commander Ryan praised those at the scene for acting swiftly and not endangering themselves, saying “This could have ended very differently.”

He added: “Thanks to the actions of Luna’s owner and the teamwork between our emergency responders and animal care professionals, we have a happy ending. Luna was incredibly lucky today – perhaps proof that Friday the 13th isn’t always unlucky!”

Luna's owner, Emma Cash, thanked rescuers, saying: "Thank you so much for helping Luna tonight. Our family can’t thank you enough."
