People living in flats on West Hill in St Helier were evacuated when a fire broke out in a nearby electrical power station and bin store.
Fire crews were called at around 9.15 pm on Sunday (4 May) to find flames had taken hold of the building and risked spreading to the adjoining four storey apartment block.
Initially, two fire engines and a water carrier were dispatched from the Fire Station. A third appliance was then sent, and 18 firefighters were on the scene at the height of the incident.
Neighbours in the nearby flats were quickly moved to safety while crews used water jets to extinguish the fire.
No one was injured.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
