Four Jersey schools get Bulls' football coaching in PE lessons

Four Jersey schools are getting free tailored football coaching from the Jersey Bulls during PE lessons.

Pupils at Bel Royal, Janvrin, Samares and Haute Valle will benefit from professional football coaching from the Jersey Bulls team during the school day.

The lessons will be tailored to each school's curriculum, ranging from Key Stage 1 to helping older students working towards a BTEC qualification in PE.

The Jersey Bulls Foundation aims to get more children out and about and participating in more sports, regardless of gender, background, ability or personal circumstances.

Its goal is to expand the community reach of the Jersey Bulls and create pathways for successful futures.

Bel Royal Teacher Arron Dolman says the games played in the session are fun, and the children are moving throughout, improving their technique and thinking about tactics.

"Michael [Jersey Bulls assigned coach] really engages with the children to ensure all are involved and enjoying the game."

The school-time coaching follows the launch last October of the Jersey Bulls Foundation's free After School Support Programme.

Pupils from Years 3 to 6 from schools with a higher percentage of Jersey Premium Pupils, with no full-time sports teacher and without an existing after-school football programme, are prioritised for the scheme.

Foundation Chair Danny Cole says they hope this latest initiative, which is being funded by the Bosdet Foundation, will be a great addition to each school's physical education curriculum.

"We are thrilled to be able to build on the success of the After School Support Programme with this new in-school scheme, which will be a genuine additional resource to schools and their staff."
