Four rescued from drifting paddleboard

Four people have been rescued from a paddleboard drifting off Jersey's south coast.

The Fire Service inshore rescue boat launched just before 3 pm on Sunday (17 August) to retrieve them.

They were returned to shore uninjured.

Crews say the incident is a reminder of the importance of water safety.

The advice is to always wear a buoyancy aid, check the weather and tide, tell someone on shore your plans, don't venture beyond your ability and have a means of calling for help.

Thousands of people flocked to Jersey's beaches over the weekend in the warm weather.

However, the prospect of a fourth heatwave wasn't realised, with temperatures not reaching the expected 28 degrees.

Jersey Met says wildfire smoke from France led to hazy sunshine, pegging the heat at 22.9 C on Saturday and 24.6 C on Sunday.

A strong breeze across the weekend also made it feel cooler.

The moderate to fresh east/northeasterly winds caused damage to several vessels.
