Jersey Museum is offering free entry for a year once it introduces a new exhibition.
It follows the closure of the 'Story of Jersey' display later this month, on 29 October.
The lead exhibition has been up for 31 years and has won awards for its telling of the island's heritage, but it has been decided it is time for something new.
Next summer, Jersey Museum is unveiling its new collection of heroic stories and artefacts.
Head of Programmes at Jersey Heritage, Morgan Ward, says islanders will have to wait and see what the new display has to offer.
"The plan is to champion some hero objects and some really important hero stories from the island.
The idea with the new exhibition is that it will be a little bit more flexible, which will allow us to update it as we find new stories to tell and have new interpretations and objects to show to the public."
Alongside this, there will be a pilot for free entry, which will last until summer 2025.
Jersey Heritage aims to make island history more accessible with the move, accompanied by the year-round openings of four other attractions.
Elizabeth Castle will close for winter due to sea conditions, but Mount Orgueil, Hamptonne, La Hougue Bie and the Maritime Museum will remain open, with the standard fees.
