'Home from home' near Southampton Hospital receives £10K from Jersey firm

Saltgate has donated £10,000 to support the renovation of Rotary Heartbeat House at Southampton Hospital.

Rotary Heartbeat House is a ‘home from home’ for families and loved ones needing to stay close to the hospital during life-saving or life-changing cardiac treatment.

It is a three-minute walk from the cardiac wards, and those with loved ones staying in the hospital can stay there for free.

Run by charity 'Heartbeat', it offers communal spaces, a kitchen, laundry facilities and a garden, and is undergoing refurbishment.

The charity says it's there because 'one of the toughest parts of going through a major heart or cardiovascular medical procedure is the way in which your family and friends can visit you.'

The house has been a vital service for more than 30 years, including for patients from the Channel Islands.
