A new community garden has been officially opened in the north of St Helier.
The La Pouquelaye Community Garden was created to turn a previously neglected site into a 'sanctuary' for the area.
It was officially unveiled by the Lieutenant Governor.
The St Helier Community Trust (SHCT) bought the land, adjacent to the former La Pouquelaye School off Fairfield Avenue, in 2022.
Andrew Lewis, Chairman of the Trust, said:
"This is more than just opening a garden; it is the unveiling of a sanctuary for the North of St Helier.
"It represents a transition from isolation to connection, turning what was once a landlocked target for fly-tipping into a flourishing oasis that reflects the very best of Jersey’s enduring community spirit."
The garden has dedicated areas for residents with mobility issues, mental health difficulties, and other social challenges.
Organisations such as the Centrepoint Trust, Mont a L'Abbe School and Jersey Youth Service will have direct access to the grounds, to allow for supervised activities like forest schools and a custom-designed sensory garden.
