An alert has been issued ahead of hot weather expected in Jersey on Sunday.
Temperatures are due to exceed 30 degrees Celsius.
The current forecast from Jersey Met suggests a top temperature of 31°C.
That would make it the hottest day of the year so far, topping the 29.7°C recorded on 31 July.
Older people and children are particularly at risk of heat exhaustion, heatstroke and dehydration.
Government advice includes:
· avoid going outside during the hottest time of day 11am to 3pm
· leave strenuous activities for later on in the day when it is cooler
· take cold baths and showers
· drink plenty of water and avoid coffee and alcohol
· keep your home cool by closing curtains, opening windows, and using fans
· wear a hat and loose light clothing, try to stay in the shade and carry water with you
· wear sun cream when going outside
After a wet start to Friday (9 August), an improvement is expected in time for the Battle of Flowers Grand Day Parade, which starts at 4pm.
Martin Nduta from Jersey Met, says the morning mist and rain will clear, to the relief of those taking part and crowds of thousands expected to watch the spectacle, and outdoor concert afterwards by Sam Ryder:
"Come the afternoon, the sun will be shining. There will be some breeze as well.
I can assure you, the afternoon will be looking very pleasant for all!"
A mainly sunny day and clear night are expected for Saturday's Moonlight Parade and finale performance by UK Queen,
