Islander tackles memorial 500-miles for men's mental health

Paul Fox is tackling 500 miles along the St Aubin's Bay cycle track in memory of a friend and to raise money for men's mental health.

The Managing Director of Zingela Club will walk 84 laps of the stretch of the seafront between St Helier and St Brelade, between 1 and 18 September 2025.

He is taking on the challenge in memory of three of his friends who have taken their lives this year, in particular 'Diamond' Rick Jordas who died n February.

Paul says he wants to beat the stigma men face and raise money for Mind Jersey.

"Us chaps are not very good at talking about our problems and issues.

"We tend to wear a mask, tell people that everything is fine. We don't want to let that mask down and show weakness by saying 'actually I've got a problem'.

"That's the point. That's what I'm trying to do, to raise awareness for that and to remove the stigma attached to men talking about their problems."

We feel as men that it is a sign of weakness to open up and talk, we've got to be strong, we've got to be leaders, and we don't show weakness at all.

Opening up and talking about your problems isn't a sign of weakness; it actually shows strength.

- Paul Fox, Foxtrot500

Paul Fox does not want Foxtrot500 to end with him and his challenge,. He wants to see as many islanders as possible taking on a '500 challenge' of their own.

So far, people have come forward to say they will do sports challenges, including a collective 500-mile run, 500-mile cycling challenges, 500 minutes of playing padel, and even someone who is going to bake 500 cupcakes to raise money and awareness for Mind Jersey.

He also wants corporate groups to join him through his challenge, whether it is for a lap or a day.

"I've got 15 other groups of participants doing various things to the 500 theme.

"The idea is to encourage the public to take on their own challenge or join us for mental health."

Mind Jersey has created a JustGiving Page for the challenge, and Foxtrot 500 will be posting updates on the challenges and future events, such as a gala, on its website.
