With 30 bays, it's not always easy to know which beach in Jersey is best to head for.
The Jersey Beach app uses official weather data, and tells people in real time which part of the island will be sheltered from the wind.
It also looks at tide times to assess if there will be sand to sit on when you get there, and if you can go to a public toilet or buy an ice cream.
The app was built by Dylan Coppard, who told Channel 103 he was surprised one didn't already exist.
"I say it's my labour of love for my fellow Jerseyman. But the truth is, I have got a youngster, and the times I have driven all the way down to the beach, and there is no ice cream truck!
"I just thought there needs to be a space where we could know a little bit more about the beaches and what is going on."
Dylan is looking for good beach snaps to accompany his app and has launched a competition, with the winner getting their picture displayed and their name beside it.
"When I built the app, I thought, obviously, we need to have a picture of the beach! I sat down, and I was going to get what I could off the internet, but I thought that's the wrong idea.
"I thought, let me get hold of a professional photographer. Long story short, he never came back to me, which is a blessing in disguise, because the next and best idea is to ask the people of Jersey to get involved, send their pictures.
"I've already had quite a good response, a number of people have put in beautiful pictures, and we're going to get to choose a lovely picture that we can put on the app to represent each beach."
The competition closes on 31 October.
