Jersey mum to walk 100 miles for children's cancer charity

Mel Thomson will be walking 100 miles for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. That is one mile for every child diagnosed with neuroblastoma each year in the UK.

Mum Mel Thomson will be taking on 100 miles through September to raise funds for Neuroblastoma UK, a charity dedicated to funding research into kinder treatments and a cure for the childhood cancer.

Mel's son Quinn was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2021.

It is often described as a 'baby cancer', and her son was diagnosed at just five months old.

Mel says they were one of the lucky families, as Quinn now in remission. But, she says, not every family gets to hear those words;

"Along the way, we’ve met brave little warriors whose stories ended far too soon and those who are still fighting.

"By sharing this story, I hope to raise awareness of this devastating disease, shine a light on the urgent need for better research, and inspire support for families still fighting."

Mel says that funding for child cancer is lower than people would realise, because it's 'taboo' and something people don't want to think about.

Mel is aiming to raise £2,500.
