Jersey secures second in the Orkney Island Games 2025

Jersey's athletes have worked their socks off to secure second place in the Island Games 2025.

The islanders are bringing home 75 medals and seven new Island Games records.

Across the six days, 2,000 athletes from 24 different islands competed in 12 sports.

We started the games off strong, securing three gold medals on the first day of action, from the men's triathlon team, another from Tom Atkinson in the individual race and one for Zara Asante in the triple jump.

As the week progressed, one islander in particular was hungry for gold.

17-year-old Filip Nowacki broke six individual Island Games records in the swimming and helped the men's team win another alongside Isaac Thompson, Isaac Dodds and Samuel Sterry.

He also takes home an impressive 11-medal strong hoard, boasting eight golds.

On the second day, Jersey's archers picked up four medals, with Mollie Perrett getting gold in the Single WA 1440 Women's Recurve, and a team silver and Angela Perrett winning bronze in the Single WA 1440 Women's Compound and a team bronze.

In the track and field, Evan Campbell also won gold in the shot put, throwing 14.29m.

Meanwhile, George Rice won an additional silver in the 10,000 metres.

Elsewhere, Jamie Oldham and Jersey record-breaking track star, Steve Mackay, came second and third in the finals of the 100m sprints.

The duo managed two sub-11-second sprints, with Oldham securing silver with an impressive 10.88 seconds, and Mackay winning bronze with 10.94 seconds, despite a hamstring injury he sustained in the semi-final.

However, this was not the end to the track team's stunning performances.

Day three saw even more medals pouring Team Jersey's way.

Among the gold medal grabbers were the men's mountain bike criterium team of Liam Cardoret, Jay Cracknell, James Dilks, Jacob Mauger and Ben Richards getting gold for Jersey, with individual bronze for James Dilks.

Michael Rive took first place in the Lawn Bowls men's singles, Josh Band and Kevin Le Long secured bronze in the pairs.

In athletics, Ted Chamberlain triumphed in the 1500m, achieving top spot on the podium, and Daniel Dubras won silver in the javelin.

Jersey also stunned in the archery mixed team knockouts as Fredrick Crosby and Mollie Perrett brought home recurve gold, whilst Hannah Bridle and Francisco Rocha won silver in the Mixed Compound Team Knockouts.

Another Games record fell in the swimming, when Clara Ginnis won gold in the women's 1500m freestyle, with Jersey's Hannah Sterry coming second and taking silver.

There was another 1-2 for Jersey in the men's 400m individual medley, with gold for Sam Sterry and silver for Isaac Dodds.

More cycling success came of day four, with Tom Huelin winning the men's individual road race, and the team taking the top spot too.

Swimming star, Filip Nowacki, also managed to win as many medals as Orkeyney's whole team by the end of Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Clara Ginnis grabbed a second individual gold of the games in the 400m freestyle and another 1-2 finish for Jersey in the men's 200m backstroke, with Isaac Thompson taking gold and Oscar Dodds winning silver.

It took the total medals won by the swimmers by this point to 27.

Squash siblings Amelie and Will Turpin took bronze in the mixed doubles, and Amelie and Beth Garton won silver in the women's doubles.

There was another silver for Antony Harkin and Matt Boote in the men's doubles.

Meanwhile, archer Mollie Perret took the field by storm again, picking up another gold medal in Orkney in the women's recurve, which took her total to three by Thursday.

In athletics, Jamie Oldham won his second silver in the 200m.

And finally, Jersey trumped the track again on the last day of action.

There was an incredible effort from the men's relay teams, taking home a double gold in the 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m and breaking the Jersey records on top.

Ste Mackay, Jamie Oldham, Tyler Johnson, and Evan Campbell achieved 00:41.63 in the 4 x 100m.

Shortly after, Steven, Jamie, Tyler, and this time, Ted Chamberlain were on top form again with a time of 03:17.35, shaving more than half a second off the broken record.

Ted was on top of the podium again in the 800m, and Jess Troy managed a silver in the gruelling half marathon, with a personal best of 1:23:37.

Meanwhile, in the squash team event, Jersey took home bronze.

Elsewhere, the men's road criterium team won one of the last golds of the day, in the individual's, Jacob Mauger won the last bronze and medal of the competition for Jersey.
