The former lookout on the Commodore Goodwill, Artur Sevash-Zade, has described in court the moment he saw the freight ship and the L'Ecume II fishing trawler collide.
The Ukrainian national was on the ship's bridge, next to the window, when he witnessed the crash at fatal sea on 8 December 2022.
He told the jury he had returned from taking the covers off the bridge wing control panels and raising the flags.
Artur Sevash-Zade said he saw nothing on the starboard (right) wing, but when he reached the port (left) wing, he noticed L'Ecume II was crossing the Goodwill's course.
The court heard previously - from an audio recording taken from the bridge at the time of the collision - that the former lookout came indoors and said, 'Is this f***ing guy sleeping?' to raise his concern with former second officer and co-accused Lewis Peter Carr, who was navigating the ship.
He said he told Lewis Carr the information this way as it was an 'emergency situation'.
The 35 year old told the jury his former colleague seemed to be in shock after the crash, so he asked him if he had called the Goodwill's captain, and Lewis Carr did not give him a 'clear answer'.
Mr Sevash-Zade said he went to see if he could see the trawler or if he could spot anyone in the sea, whilst the Goodwill's Captain Zelazny spoke to Mr Carr before asking Mr Sevash-Zade to change the steering from autopilot to manual.
He told the court that after the 'man overboard' alarm was made, he returned to the starboard wing to keep watch.
Both Artur Sevash-Zade and Lewis Peter Carr are charged with the manslaughter of the fishing trawler's skipper Michael Michieli and crewmen Larry Simyunn and Jervis Baligat.
They are also charged with endangering another ship by failing to maintain a 'proper lookout' by sight and hearing, as well as correctly using radar or other machinery and equipment, to avoid the loss, destruction or serious damage of another ship or the death or serious injury to another person.
They deny the charges and the trial continues.
