Les Quennevais' 'forgotten' shopping precinct needs 'action' and 'intervention'

Les Quennevais Precinct and Parade

The island's approach to the 'tired' Les Quennevais retail district has a St Brelade Deputy 'banging' her 'head against the proverbial wall'.

Deputy Helen Miles wants Jersey to take pride in the west of the island, especially in improving the Les Quennevais precinct and parade.

The politician points out that there are currently eight vacant units, with some in such 'poor conditions' that they are 'unlettable'.

She proposes that Les Quennevais precinct and parade's regeneration should be included in the Future Fit Roadmap.

Deputy Miles believes that the neglect of the retail hub is pushing more people to go into town for things that could be offered in the west, with improvements to the area.

She believes that without this, islanders will turn to online shopping, which reduces community engagement.

Another point the deputy makes is that the Number 15 bus goes from the Airport and past the precinct on its way into town.

Deputy Helen Miles does not think this is 'the impression of the island' we should be giving to visitors, especially people coming to Jersey for the first time.
