A man who was found with blood all over his hands after attacking his partner with a cleaver has been convicted of grave and criminal assault following a five-day trial in Jersey's Royal Court.
Luis Abreu Dos Santos (48) was accused of attempted murder, but the jury hearing the case failed to reach a unanimous of majority verdict.
Dos Santos was convicted on the lesser charge.
The victim needed surgery after suffering significant head, arm, and neck injuries.
Detective Constable James Fowler, the investigating officer, says Dos Santos' actions put his victim in grave danger.
"We would like to commend the victim for her courage, strength and bravery throughout what has been a horrendous ordeal for her.
SoJP has a dedicated department for investigating domestic abuse with a number of specialist resources it can call upon to investigate the crime and offer victims support.
