Medal haul from the pool as Orkney Island Games continues

Jersey took seventeen more medals on day 2 of the Islands Games in Orkney.

17 year old swimmer Filip Nowacki won two golds and broke two Island Games records in the pool.

The first was in 100m breaststroke, smashing an Island Games record set by compatriot Ian Black in 2015.

He was more than two seconds quicker in the final, with a time of 58.1, having already shaved 1.5 seconds off the record in the heats (58.73).

The second came in the 200m individual medley, again breaking a Island Games record with a time of 1.59.17.  Jersey's Isaac Dodds took bronze.

It's already been a month of silverware for rising star Nowacki, who broke Olympian Adam Peaty's British Junior Record in 100m breaststroke at the European Junior Championships in Slovakia and the European Junior Record in the 200m breaststroke.

Other podium finishes in the pool came for Sam Sterry (silver in the 1500m Freestyle)  Isaac Dodds (silver in the 200m Butterfly), team silver in the Men 4x50m Medley Relay,  Clara Ginnis (bronze in the 400m Individual Medley) and Isaac Thompson (bronze in 50m Backstroke).

Having won bronze at Guernsey 2023, Evan Campbell won gold in the shot put, throwing 14.29m.

There was silver for George Rice in the 10,000m, and a silver for Jamie Oldham and bronze for Steven MacKay in the 100m.

The first medal of day 2 of the Games for Jersey came for the men's cycling time trial team -Ollie Cadin, Tom Huelin, Samuel Nisbet, and Jack Rebours.

In Archery, Jersey picked up four more medals, with Mollie Perrett getting gold in the Single WA 1440 Women's Recurve, and a team silver and Angela Perrett winning bronze in the Single WA 1440 Women's Compound and a team bronze.

 

In football, Jersey's men won their opening match against Gozo 2-0. They are back in action this evening at 7pm against Shetland. 

Jersey's women's football team took on Shetland, winning 2-0. They will be back in action at 3:30 pm against Isle of Wight!

Jersey are third in the medals table, with seven gold.
