Mel C And More Girl Power For Weekender

Sporty Spice and three other big and up-and-coming female acts have been confirmed for Weekender 2023.

Mel C will be joined by 'Castles' and 'Lost Without You' singer Freya Ridings, as well as two up-and-coming hot artists, Venbee and Charlotte Plank.

Venbee, who came out with the drum 'n' bass hits, 'Messy in Heaven' and 'Low Down,' has already accumulated more than three million monthly listeners on Spotify, despite only debuting a year ago.

The 22-year-old went viral on TikTok with her track 'Low Down,' which soared to #3 on the UK charts and #11 globally.

At the age of nine, the Chatham-born artist taught herself how to play the piano and guitar after being inspired by her grandad.

Venbee says if she was not in music she would most likely be in a dead-end job thinking about the 'what ifs'.

"It's one of the only things that help gets me through the ups and downs of life."

Rudimental and Vibe Chemistry recently partnered with underground artist Charlotte Plank on the new single 'Dancing is Healing'.

The 22-year-old began recording her own music during lockdown, starting with lo-fi demos and going on to release her first single 'Dont U Know' in 2021.

Plank's career is in its early stages, but she has been described as a drum 'n' bass artist to look out for by both NME and Zane Lowe.

Both 22-year-olds are part of Loud LDN, a group of London-based female and non-binary artists, including Piri, Issey Cross, and WIllow Kayne.

Freya Ridings will join the women performing in September, after releasing her self-titled album which is now Gold in the UK.

The 29-year-old from London has a flare for soul, folk and pop, and was recently set to play at King Charles III's coronation, before having to pull out last minute.

And of course, Mel C needs no introduction. The former Spice Girl will be performing on the main stage at this year’s Weekender.

She had an incredible career with the band before breaking solo in 1998.

Sporty's 1999 album 'Northern Star' sold over four million copies making it the best-selling solo album of any Spice girl.
