As we approach the festive season, islanders are being reminded that there is mental health support available for those that need it.
That's the message from Mental Health Services Director Andy Weir, who wants people to reach out if they're struggling.
He said Christmas can be a particularly challenging time for some people:
"There's a lot of expectation around Christmas. If you look at the adverts on the television - with everyone with their family and being happy - but for some people, that isn't their experience.
"Mental health needs don't go away because it's Christmas, the weekend or night-time. They are there all the time, so we need to make sure our services are here all of the time."
The Listening Lounge
The Listening Lounge is one of the services open around the Christmas period, providing counselling and peer support for those dealing with common mental health and wellbeing difficulties.
5000 people have come through its doors in St Helier since it first opened, and there are plans to see even more people next year.
Lucy Nicolaou, Director of Mental Health Provision LV Care Group, which operates the support hub, has this advice for those having a difficult time this Christmas:
"Be mindful of social media use, comparing your experience to others online can intensify some of those feelings of isolation perhaps.
"It's really important to be mindfully of boundaries and practice self care - prioritising activities that nurture your wellbeing."
