Most Virus-Affected Hospital Wards Reopening To Visitors

Most of the hospital wards that were temporarily closed to visitors because of Covid-19 or norovirus are reopening today (11 March) or over the weekend.

The Acute Assessment Unit, Rozel Ward, and Cedar Ward in St. Saviour's Hospital are reopening today (11 March).

Plemont Ward will reopen to visitors tomorrow (12 March)

The government says Beauport Ward will stay closed to visitors for the moment.

"(The) re-opening of the ward will be confirmed as soon as possible."

It was announced that Sorel Ward would reopen to visitors on Sunday 13 March, but it will stay closed for a bit longer because of norovirus.

A government spokesperson says the hope is for it to reopen to visitors on Tuesday 15 March.

Visitors are being urged to wear a mask and take a lateral flow test beforehand.

"Anyone not wearing a mask in the Hospital will be respectfully asked to leave.

Islanders are reminded that they must not visit the Hospital or any other HCS site if they feel in any way unwell or have Covid or Norovirus symptoms.

To help stop the spread of both Covid and Norovirus, regular, thorough hand washing is essential; using hot, soapy water, washing and ensuring that hands are well dried."

The government said earlier this week that a small number of visitors had tried to come into the hospital without a mask or not wearing one properly.

There have also been incidents of visitors verbally abusing members of staff when asked to put a mask on.

Chief Nurse Rose Naylor called it 'simply not acceptable.'

As of 10 March, 37 people with Covid-19 are being treated in hospital.
