New Blue Islands aircraft will 'earn back trust' of passengers

Blue Islands has taken delivery of a new ATR this week

The boss of Blue Islands has said sorry to customers for the frustrations caused by delayed and cancelled flights and says its new aircraft will deliver the reliable service islanders deserve.

Rob Veron, CEO of Blue Islands, has apologised to islanders over recent issues faced by the airline and passengers.

In a post on his social media, he says he knows many passengers feel let down.

"Aircraft maintenance issues, delayed parts and weather damage' attributed to a challenging month of last-minute cancellations and delays for the airline. "

Last month, Blue Islands axed 28 flights from its summer schedule because of its 'fleet challenges'.

The airline subsequently had a run of delays and cancellations, prompting a string of complaints from passengers, questions to ministers in Jersey's States Assembly and a renewed push from the Jersey Consumer Council for local compensation laws to reimburse affected travellers using Channel Islands-based carriers.

Mr Veron says he is 'genuinely sorry' for the 'real impacts' that the disruptions have caused, and that he knows how critical reliable air links are for our island community.

"Whether you missed important business meetings, family gatherings, or medical appointments, I know our service disruptions had real impacts on your lives."

The message comes as Blue Islands welcomes the delivery of the new ATR aircraft, which Mr Veron says will bring the additional capacity needed for a return to the 'reliable service' islanders deserve.

He says they are ready to earn back the trust of islanders.

"To everyone who stuck with us during these difficult months: thank you for your patience.  We know you had every right to be frustrated, and your loyalty means a lot to us."
