Jersey's Attorney General - Mark Temple KC - has been appointed Jersey's next Deputy Bailiff.
Mr Temple succeeds Robert MacRae, who will be sworn as Bailiff on Friday (24 October) following the retirement last week of Sir Timothy Le Cocq.
Mark Temple has been the island's top prosecutor since 2020.
Before that, he spent five years as HM Solicitor General. He qualified as a Jersey advocate twenty years ago.
He will take up the appointment, which has been approved by King Charles III, in the new year. He said:
“It is a great honour to have the opportunity to serve the Island as Deputy Bailiff of Jersey.
"I look forward to supporting the work of the Bailiff and the Bailiff’s Chambers, to working with the Jurats of the Royal Court, States Members, and the Judicial and States Greffe.
"I am conscious of the high standards set by my predecessors which I will endeavour to uphold.”
Robert MacRae will become the island's 91st Bailiff. He announced his successor in the States Chamber earlier:
“Mr Temple has served the Island as a Law Officer for 10 years and I have every confidence that his experience and attributes will serve him well as a judge of the Royal Court and a presiding officer of the States Assembly.”
