Pair Jailed Over Drugs Hauls Worth £640k

Two smugglers have been jailed in separate cases that stopped £640k of Class A drugs reaching Jersey's streets.

Customs and Immigration says it recovered 'exceptional quantities of dangerous drugs' in two seizures at the island's ports earlier this year.

The Royal Court has jailed Jeffrey Witsey, from London, for 10 years and six months for hiding half a kilo of cocaine and 8,600 ecstasy tablets in the spare wheel of a car.

The 60 year old was detected by one of the service's sniffer dogs as he arrived off a ferry from the UK in March.

"This was a very large seizure for the Island, with a street value of over £350,000. The high purity of the cocaine (92%) was of particular concern."

In July, Sean Aboh, 23-year-old and also from London, was stopped at the airport off a flight from Gatwick.

A search revealed 205g of heroin and 2g of cocaine in his clothing. The drugs had a street value of £290,000.

Aboh (pictured above) has been jailed for seven years.

JCIS Senior Manager, Luke Goddard has praised his staff at the borders:

“Our officers continue to show a high level of vigilance at the border and have prevented exceptionally large quantities of dangerous drugs getting to the streets of Jersey, which would have fuelled other related crime.

Undoubtedly the disruption caused to the syndicates involved in targeting the Island will be significant and the resulting sentences have shown how the Court has recognised the seriousness of these offences.”
