Par-tea Time In Town For Platinum Jubilee

An afternoon tea party running the length of King Street is among Jersey's plans to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Tables and decorations are being laid on for a high tea stretching the length of St Helier's high street.

The Bailiff's Office has announced a packed programme of events to mark 70 years of Queen Elizabeth II's reign.

The activities taking place in Jersey have been planned to avoid clashes with national celebrations, like the Trooping the Colour, to allow islanders to watch from home.

The annual reception to mark the Queen's birthday will be held in the grounds of Government House, hosted by Jersey's Lieutenant Governor, Sir Stephen Dalton.

The event on Wednesday 1 June will include a 21-gun salute from the Jersey Militia, music from the Band of the Island of Jersey and refreshments.

Jersey is one of more than 1,500 locations around the Commonwealth where a Platinum Jubilee Beacon will be lit.

A special ceremony is planned for Thursday 2 June on the Glacis Field south of Fort Regent, with 5,000 islanders able to take part.

Live music, food and other entertainment will be laid on ahead of the virtual beacon being lit alongside the others around the world.

The Bailiff's Office says it will be visible across St Helier and St Saviour.

On Friday 3 June, all of Jersey's uniformed services will march along Victoria Avenue, with a motoring cavalcade featuring vehicles from the past 70 years of the Queen's reign.

Islanders will also be able to watch the Platinum Party at the Palace, broadcast live from Buckingham Palace, on a big screen on Saturday 4 June.

Sunday (5 June)'s events include a service of thanksgiving at the Town Church, led by the Dean of Jersey, as well as afternoon tea on King Street and a special race meeting at Les Landes Race Course.
