Record retirement year for Rhona's

Gorey café owner Rhona Hewit is celebrating her most successful fundraising year yet, as she announces that the much-loved beach café is up for sale.

Rhona has raised £10,000 this year for Enable Jersey, bringing her total charitable fundraising to more than £60,000.

The record total comes as she announces her retirement from the beach café and puts it up for sale.

Rhona has run Rhona's at the Beach for 20 years, and donates all the proceeds from her iconic fish finger sandwiches to a chosen charity each year.

She says she is speaking to prospective buyers and is hopeful that a new owner will be like-minded in their efforts to serve the community:

"The people that we're in talks with at the moment - all of them want to run it as it is now.

"They want to keep the name, they want to keep the charity - the fishfingers will continue.

"It's a great legacy. I started fundraising because of the passing of a family member to suicide

"To think that legacy will continue, even after I hang up my apron, is really really lovely."
