Reports Of Stalking Double With No Convictions

The number of stalking incidents reported to Jersey Police this year has more than doubled compared to 2020, but no one has been convicted.

There is no actual offence of stalking in Jersey.

Crimes that have been identified are recorded as harassment.

65 incidents in which the word ‘stalking’ was reported to police have been recorded so far this year.

That compares to 32 last year and 41 in 2019.

15 crimes have been identified this year, without any convictions.

That compares to two crimes last year, with two probation orders handed down.

This information was shared by Deputy Gregory Guida in response to a written question from Deputy Mike Higgins.

"We believe the increase in 2021 may be related to the Sarah Everard case and the subsequent spotlight on violence against women and girls (VAWG)."

Met Police Officer Wayne Couzens falsely arrested Miss Everard in March for breaching coronavirus rules to get her into his car, before raping and murdering her.

He was sentenced to life behind bars.
