Sandy Park saved

Sandy Park at Long Beach has been saved, with Grouville parishioners agreeing to take over its upkeep.

The popular beach-side play area has been at risk of closure because the Infrastructure department didn't want to renew its lease.

Parish officials called a Parish Assembly, asking ratepayers to vote to take on maintenance costs to keep it open.

Grouville Constable Mark Labey said the east of the island already lacked play areas.

People queued to get into the Parish Hall last night (19 June) and backed the request for £9,000 to refurbish the equipment and fencing and around £3,500 a year to maintain Sandy Park.

Hundreds of islanders have welcomed the decision:

Absolutely fantastic news, thank you Grouville. X

Wonderful turnout & overwhelming vote in favour! Well done Grouville!👏👏

As a 'spinster of this parish' with no children and no vested interest😊, I am still happy to pay approx £4 of my rates towards the park. I would also love to see at least one fully accessible roundabout or swing in the future. I do also understand that noise can travel in peculiar ways and will be magnified for some - and I hope that something can be done to mitigate this for those affected.

Was a pleasure to be there. What a community!

People Power alive and well in Grouville x whoop!
