States Vote To Adopt Jèrriais

Government signs and stationary will be rebranded to promote Jersey's native language.

The States has voted to put Jèrriais on the signs when they next need to be replaced, with English translations underneath.

It will also be an official language in the States Assembly alongside English and French.

Deputy Jeremy Maçon says supporting the use of Jèrriais is important.

"I'm not expecting tones to be produced in Jèrriais, I don't think that will be practical, but how can we corporate Jèrriais into those publications? Is that the title page alongside English, is that the index? Things like that.

"If you get someone really creative behind there, we can do something very exciting."

Deputy Maçon's amended proposition was adopted by 39 votes to 6.
