Storm Ciaran: Gov Declares Major Incident

Jersey's government has declared a major incident in response to the incoming Storm Ciarán.

The major incident will come into effect from midnight tonight (1 Nov).

A rare red weather warning has been issued by Jersey Met, telling islanders to avoid all outside activity.

Storm Ciarán is expected to bring violent storm force 11 winds, with gusts of up to 95 mph at its peak.

The government say a multi-agency situation room has been set up to co-ordinate its response, which is 'usual procedure'.

Ministers have echoed their advice for people to 'stay at home'.

"Only travel if it is essential or if they are essential workers.

Advice about travel, disruption to services, and how to stay safe will be shared on the social media channels of the Government of Jersey and States of Jersey Police.

Islanders are advised to check the Jersey Met Office forecast for any weather changes on."

Schools will be closed, along with most businesses.

Flights and sailings have also been cancelled for the duration of Thursday.
