Students transform Corbiere's public toilets with a tale-telling mural

Talented Year 9 pupils from Grainville school have been working hard, creating a new mural at the southwestern-most point of the island.

The youngsters have been working with artist Bokra, aka Ben Robertson, for six weeks to create a piece of art.

The themes of the three pieces are shipping, tourism and nature.

It features the steam train that used to run along the railway to the landmark lighthouse, a depiction of the 1995 Channiland ferry disaster, and some of the flora, fauna and wildlife commonly seen in the area, including a green lizard and butterfly.

The crows are a reference to the name Corbiere - “a place where crows gather”.

The project was thought up by Jersey Property Holdings, with the school and artist taking control of the design and execution.

Infrastructure Minister Andy Jehan attended the launch of the mural and met the teenagers who have dedicated weeks of hard work towards brightening up the once-bare toilet block.

He said of Twitter:

"Together [Grainville and Ben Robertson] have collaborated on a great piece of art.

"Do take a look, it’s very good!!"
