Supertri League returns to Jersey

Jersey joins Toronto, Chicago, and Toulouse in hosting the 2025 Supertri League.

The world-class race is returning to Jersey, which organiser say feels like its 'spiritual home'.

32 professional triathletes will be travelling here to compete on the Waterfront on 21 September.

It'll mark a return to the island after a four year absence.

The island was the first to stage a full Supertri event in 2017, and continued to host the events in 2018, 2019 and 202 under a deal with Jersey's government worth up to £250,000 a year.

Supertri co-founder and CEO Michael D’Hulst says Jersey has always been one of the most iconic stops on the Supertri League calendar.

"The racing is world-class, the backdrop is stunning, and the community is truly invested."

The Supertri League sees triathletes competing on a 'stadium-like' course in city and town centres with thousands of spectators.

Competitors will tackle three back-to-back rounds of 300m swims, 4km of cycling and 1.6km of running.

Michael D’Hulst says Jersey really is a very special place, not only for Supertri but for triathlon in general.

"People recognise the effort you put in and repay that with incredible support.

"We’re thrilled to return in 2025 and to continue working in partnership with the Government of Jersey to promote healthier, more active lifestyles while showcasing the island on a global stage."

The government's 'Inspiring an Active Jersey' is a decade-long initiative that started in 2020, and aims to create a healthier, more productive and fairer community by becoming 'one of the most physically active populations in the world'.

Supertri has previously helped to increase junior triathlon club memberships by 3.5 times, and 84% of islanders said they were proud to host the event in 2019.

Economic Development Minister Kirsten Morel, says Supertri was a great success when it previously visited the island.

"We’re encouraged by the community’s participation and the prospect of having Jersey placed alongside major global cities as a trusted venue for international sports events."

The event also helps Jersey's economy. In 2021, the hospitality sector received a boost with around 400 extra beds taken by triathletes, staff and support personnel.

The government says it expects similar returns in 2025.
