The trial is underway of a man accused of a string of sexual assaults on five women on the streets of St Helier one Sunday morning last November.

Opening the prosecution's case against  of Abdelkarim Arfaoui, Crown Advocate Lauren Hallam told the jury that he attacked and tackled his first victim to the ground, then attempted to sexually assault her before she got into the safety of her home.

In her police interview, she said she thought he was going to kill her, and left her with bite marks, bruised ribs, and scratches.

The court heard that after being 'unable to get what he wanted', Arfaoui then went on to target other women on the streets of St Helier.

Advocate Hallam said he chased some of the women, hit another, grabbed them sexually, and made unwanted sexual comments.

She added that one of his alleged victims was so shaken that she couldn't remember the number for 999.

Arfaoui, who is in his late twenties, denies ten offences, including attempted rape, sexual touching and assault.

The offences are alleged to have taken place within a period of 90 minutes on the morning of Sunday 30 November between 6am and 7.30am.

The trial continues.
