Women to cycle Sri Lanka after recovering from bike accident

A Jersey woman who was left temporarily disabled after a cycling accident is 'back on her bike' - and taking on 400km in Sri Lanka.

Sara Collins and friends are raising money for Maison des Landes, a fully accessible Jersey hotel that she visited in recovery.

She wants to give caregivers and other disadvantaged people well-deserved breaks there and support their work.

Sara says it's going to be 'hilly and humid' but that she wants to give back:

"They were so amazing to me; they let me use the hydrotherapy pool.

"It was such a special thing to be able to stand when I had been disabled and in a wheelchair for so long, so I just want to give something back.

"They just do amazing things there for people who are disabled. They have 15 bedrooms that are fully accessible with special toilets, and they've got other rooms where the families can stay, and of course, a great hydrotherapy pool."

Sara cycles with the local group 'Jersey Rouleurs' who she says have been so supportive in helping her get back into training. She even took on the Tour De Jersey and says she is 'absolutely loving it' again.

She'll be taking on the distance in November, with all the money raised going to the hotel.

On Saturday (11 July), she is doing a charity bike wash at The Cog and Sprocket from 1.30 - 5 pm with tea and cakes.
