Anthony Joshua-Tyson Fury fight to take place in Cardiff on 11 December

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury's long-awaited showdown will take place at Cardiff's Principality Stadium on Friday 11 December.

Joshua and Fury are the biggest names in British boxing and spent a decade circling each other amid aborted attempts to agree a showdown while still in their prime.

But they've now agreed a deal that will be welcomed by British fans after reports the fight could have been held in the New York or Saudi Arabia.

No start time has been announced yet, but they had been rumours the main event could begin in the early hours to cater for US fans. It will be broadcast live on Netflix.

The announcement was made by Saudi boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh, who posted on X: "Years in the making. One night to settle it."

Negotiations to get the fight over the line have been going on for months, with both camps accusing one another of holding things up.

Fury, 38, posted an image on Instagram earlier this month suggesting the fight would be at New York's famous Madison Square Garden - much to the annoyance of UK fans.

The two boxers were unable to agree terms in 2021 and plans fell apart after a US judge ruled Fury had to face Deontay Wilder in a trilogy fight instead.

Both are past their peak and neither has a world title, but the fight will easily be the biggest of the year.

Joshua's last fight was a second-round win over Albanian Kristian Prenga in July, though the Briton was knocked down in the first 20 seconds.

It was the first for the 36-year-old since surviving the December car crash that killed his two friends.

Fury's last time in the ring was also in July: a seventh-round win in Thailand over another unfancied fighter, Mariusz Wach.

The bouts were seen as low-risk "tune-up" fights ahead of the British boxers' planned head to head. However, a loss for either would have diminished the chances of the fight happening this year.

Fury and Joshua both previously held versions of the heavyweight world title, but both were beaten twice by legendary Oleksandr Usyk.

Joshua also suffered defeats to fellow Briton Daniel Dubois in 2024 and a shock loss to Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019.

Dubois is now WBO champion and will take on compatriot Fabio Wardley next month in a rematch of their brutal contest earlier this year.

Oleksandr Usyk vacated his world titles voluntarily so he could choose his own fights rather than being dictated to by the sport's governing bodies.
