Former Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood charged with sexual offences against two more women

Former Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood has been charged with sexual offences against two more women.

The Metropolitan Police said the 68-year-old has been charged with indecently assaulting a teenage girl, aged 16 or 17, in 1991 and sexually assaulting an 18-year-old in May 2004.

Westwood is now facing a total of 17 charges involving nine women between 1983 and 2016.

He previously pleaded not guilty to four counts of rape, nine counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual assault at Southwark Crown Court, where he is due to face trial in January.

Westwood will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on a date to be fixed in relation to the latest alleged offences, which are said to have taken place in London.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, from the Metropolitan Police Service, said: "The women who have made reports have placed their trust in us, and we remain committed to providing them with all available support."

Westwood was charged in October last year with offences against seven women, which he denies, including three indecent assaults at the BBC in the 1990s.

He is also accused of four indecent assaults in the 1980s in London.

Westwood is alleged to have raped a woman in a hotel in 1996 and sexually assaulted a woman at a nightclub in Stroud, Gloucestershire, in 2010.

He is further accused of two indecent assaults and one count of rape from the early 2000s at a London address, and two counts of rape at a London address in the 2010s.

Catherine P Baccas, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor, said: "Today the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised two further charges of sexual assault and indecent assault against Tim Westwood.

"Mr Westwood is already charged with nine counts of indecent assault, two counts of sexual assault and four counts of rape in relation to reported non recent offences between 1983 and 2016 involving seven women.

"These new charges, following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police, relate to separate reports of non-recent offences in 1991 and 2004 involving two additional women."

Westwood began his broadcasting career in local radio before joining Capital Radio in the late 1980s.

He moved to the BBC in 1994, working on Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra for almost 20 years.

After leaving the BBC in 2013, he joined Capital Xtra, hosting a regular Saturday show where he was referred to as "The Big Dawg", before he left the company in 2022.
