Man charged over stabbing of Met Police officer in early morning raid

A man has been charged with stabbing a Met Police officer following a raid on Tuesday targeting a suspected organised crime group.

Charles Charalambous, 56, of Cockfosters, was charged overnight with wounding with intent to cause GBH to resist arrest.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

The charge relates to an incident that took place in the early hours of 29 September when a Metropolitan Police officer who was carrying out a search warrant in was stabbed in the leg.

The warrant was issued part of a wider operation targeting a suspected organised crime group during which 17 others were arrested.

The officer was taken to hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Two other men who were arrested as part of the same wider operation have also been charged overnight and will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Carl Robinson, 49, of Stanford Rivers, Essex, was charged with possession of offensive weapons in a private place, namely three knives.

Bradley Byford, 37, of Bishop's Stortford, was charged with possession of a weapon to discharge a noxious thing, namely electricity.

All three men remain under investigation as part of the wider investigation and have been bailed for those offences.

A total of 18 people were arrested as part of Tuesday's operation, with 17 arrested on Wednesday morning, followed by one further arrest later in the day.

The Metropolitan Police described the offences for which they were arrested as complex in nature and requiring extensive investigative work with the detailed examination of evidence both before and after the arrest stage.
