Man City boss Pep Guardiola expected to leave club at end of season

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is set to leave the club after their final Premier League game of the season on Sunday, Sky Sports News has reported, citing sources.

There has been no confirmation from City or Guardiola, who has been at the club for over a decade and whose contract runs until 2027.

Since his appointment in February 2016, the 55-year-old manager has been in charge during one of the club's most successful periods.

In the last decade, City have won 20 trophies, including six Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy in 2023 and several FA Cup titles.

Sources told Sky Sports News that preparations are under way at the club in case Guardiola does leave, with Enzo Maresca being his most likely successor.

The Italian, who was Guardiola's assistant when City won the Champions League, left Chelsea in January and has been described by his former boss as "one of the best managers in the world".

Other sources at the club have insisted to Sky Sports News that Guardiola remains their manager on a contract until 2027.

Sky Sports' Gary Neville called it "game-changer news" and expressed shock that it came out the night before Manchester City's match against Bournemouth.

"If it is true, Man City will be extremely disappointed that has broken now and so will Pep Guardiola," he added.

In 2024, Guardiola signed a two-year contract extension with Manchester City.

At the time, he said it was "an honour, a pleasure and a privilege" to be at the club, adding that: " I am so happy to be staying for another two more seasons."

The football boss has also made headlines off the pitch, being a vocal supporter of Palestinian rights and speaking out about the war in Sudan.
