73.9% GCSE Pass Rate In Guernsey

Students across the Bailiwick have received their GCSE results after the UK government warned that a return to pre-pandemic marking would lead to grade deflation.

This year's Bailiwick average pass rate is 73.9%, which is higher than the UK's.

61.5% of the grades attained by students at Guernsey's state schools were Level 4 plus/passing. The percentage in local private schools ranges from the high 80s to 90s.

This cohort was in Year 8 when the pandemic began, so they spent the majority of their secondary education in lockdowns or with restrictions.

GCSEs are now graded 1-9, with 7 to 9 equivalent to the old A to A*, and anything above a 3 is considered a pass. For the first time, Guernsey’s schools are reporting Attainment 8 data.

States Schools Average Attainment 8 score is 39.8.

88% of Blanchelande College students passed at least five exams (including English and mathematics).

16% of grades were 9-7.

Blanchelande’s Attainment 8 score is 50.

Principal, Robert O’Brien says pupils should feel confident going forward:

"Many of Blanchelande’s Year 11 students and their parents will be delighted with their achievements, the culmination of many years of hard work by them and their teachers."

98% of Ladies’ College students passed their exams.

46% of all results were A*/8/9.

The school's Attainment 8 score is over 72.

Principal Daniele Harford Fox says she is impressed:

"Sometimes we forget as adults what it means to prepare for upwards of ten subjects with multiple exams for each, over just a few weeks – it’s an immense feat.

What makes me particularly proud of the girls’ achievements at The Ladies’ College is that there isn’t a culture of spoon-feeding. The girls are really developing their own voices, their own drive and their own independent study skills."

96% of Elizabeth College students passed their GCSEs.

18% of passes achieved were 9s, with two students achieving 9 passes at grade 9.

The school's Attainment 8 score is 64.9

“This excellent set of results which are a credit to their hard work and dedication as well as a reflection of the support of their parents and our dedicated staff.

The vast majority of them will go on to study A Levels at Elizabeth College whilst others have opted to follow different pathways which include rugby scholarships in the UK and a variety of vocational courses locally."
