A Guernsey woman has launched a community project to decorate the seafront with bunting, to celebrate 80 years of freedom, in 2025.
Megs Bailey says for the 80th Liberation Day, she wants Guernsey to reunite.
She says 9 May has not been the same since the pandemic, when parishes began hosting their own parties.
For the big anniversary in 2025, Megs says it felt right for the community to work together to produce a display of jubilation in town.
She wants islanders to craft enough bunting to stretch from the Weighbridge to the Slaughterhouse.
"I want people to feel that they have more ownership of Liberation Day, instead of just standing back and complaining.
I feel this way people can really feel a sense of belonging, and it will bring people together."
From 1 June, islanders can donate any old colourful cotton or polycotton fabric to collection bins.
These will be placed at Waitrose, Alliance, Craftwise at Oatlands and the Parish Douzaine Rooms (except St Sampson, Forest and Torteval).
The fabric will be organised into bunting kits with templates, tape and thread, and given to locals to craft hand-made bunting.
Megs says anyone can register to join the project - schools, church groups, clubs, residential homes, and families - by emailing her at lib25bunting@gmail.com.
She explains the 'Make do and Mend' theme:
"It is meant to reflect the ethos of islanders during the Occupation.
They wouldn't have had things to hand and would have had to make flags and clothing themselves.
It's also a good way of recycling, getting the community to come together, and making the seafront really colourful on Liberation Day."
